I’m sitting here with my wife. We just finished watching the movie “Machine Gun Preacher.” It was Connie’s idea. I was under the impression it would be some B movie with a lot of glorified violence and catchphrases. Nothing could be further from the truth. This movie touched my heart to the core. It’s based on the true story of Sam Childers. He is a former biker who found Christ and traveled to Sudan to help the children constantly in danger of being killed or abducted to become soldiers.
What touched me was not only the suffering that the people of Sudan has to endure but also the challenge of being an American minister who cares so deeply for people no one else cares about. Gerard Butler plays Pastor Childers and he aptly captures the raw emotion of seeing the horrors of third world “justice” and the frustration of sacrificing so much against almost insurmountable odds. I would encourage you as a Christian to see this movie and see what means to truly lay it all on the line for the vision of God.
I must warn you ahead of time, “Machine Gun Preacher” is realistic in many ways. From blood and violence to adult language and some brief sexual situations, this is not a family friendly movie. This movie is rated R.
